Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge – 05/23/17

This is actually a beautiful light orange rose I found at my mother-inlaw’s house on Mother’s Day. The flower was almost perfectly formed and still had all the full color on display.

I captured this with my Droid Maxx and this is an untouched photo.

I captured this with my Droid Maxx and converted it to black & white using Microsoft Word.

This is one of the three Clematis plants that remain from my time as a greenhouse owner. Before that time I had this pure white one that I still have not been able to find to replace the one we had to leave behind when we moved.

Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge: Nature

017.jpgLast year a friend and I posted flower pictures on Facebook every day for about 45 or so days. We began on May 1st just like we have this year, so I though I would just use that photograph here. My friend says she knows this as The Star of Bethlehem.

You can find the prompt for this week here: Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge : Nature

Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge: MACRO

Is there anyone who follows me around here that doesn’t know I love taking pictures yet? Before digital cameras came along I took far less photographs due to the results of the limited technology to that time. I had never had a camera without a fixed lens, meaning I did not have the ability to self-focus. So, many of my photographs were blurry or half-shots and the frustration caused me to avoid taking some shots I easily snatch now.

Another upgrade is the fine lens attached to smart phones these days. The last two times I visited Belize on mission trips I took several more photos because my phone was constantly at the ready. Any time I take my miniature Sheltie out for a walk there is the potential for a good photo opportunity.

As Allan said with his post I am unsure if this is Macro or just a close up, but I liked it and thought it could serve the purpose of a macro shot.

Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge – Nature

Of the 822 photos within my cell phone’s gallery 90% are of nature, so trying to pare down the lot to a single photo in response to Sally D’s mobile photography challenge was going to be difficult In the end I settled on two. The first is what I see as a miniature daffodil of some sort, although I am only guessing. If you know for sure please enlighten me.

The second I captured in a whiskey barrel planter downtown last Saturday after a long and hard day of outside work on Saturday. I am so used to the leafy look of tulips I was struck by this specimen. Again, if anyone has knowledge of this variety please share.

Daffodil Montage – Sally D’s Mobile Photography Challenge

Why do I love mobile photography challenges? I have three of reasons. 1) I love nature. I know it is directly connected to my love of God. Creation is a constantly changing canvas that continually renews with ever more thrilling art for our eyes to enjoy. 2) Before, but especially since I had my own greenhouse business I have been thrilled with any kind of blooming plant or flower. 3) My cell phone has a wonderful camera lens that takes some very good photos. By the way in case you are wondering, it is a DROID MAXX.

Winter is my least favorite season of the year. Usually it promises nothing but darkness, cold, wet and snowy conditions for days upon end. Do you know the difference between usually and always, besides the uncommon letters? usually means not every year will this be true. Hello Winter of 2017, I think you closely resemble something we know as spring. Yes, I am pretty sure on balance the sheer number of spring-like temperature days qualify you as a non-winter.

The daffodils were thoroughly confused. I didn’t complain however, since I associate their bloom with the beginning of real spring.

Thankfully the tulips planted in our new bulb garden are still riding their expected schedule, so I may be able to share them the next time this freestyle challenge returns.
